Top Fall Essential Oils
For most of us in North America, the tell-tale signs of Fall have arrived, or are right on the cusp. The slightly darker mornings, the fleeting evening light, and the crispness of the air when we step outside to start our day. Bittersweet as it is to say goodbye to the warm, sun-soaked days of summer, there’s something nostalgic and familiar about Fall’s cool embrace that feels cozy and welcoming as we transition to slowing down, spending more time indoors and preparing for the seasons ahead.
Here at Saje, some of our top requested scents are those that perfectly articulate what it is we are looking to be inspired by as Autumn approaches; we crave products and aromas that evoke feelings of warmth and nurturance, and that can be described as spicy, woody, sweet and balsamic. We want to feel like we’ve stepped into the vastness of the forest, or that we’re ascending a mountain top while we watch the changing of the leaves. Whatever the reason is, the Autumn season leaves us feeling some type of way and we’re here for it.
We’re exploring the top scents for Fall, and those that make us want to curl up with a good book and a warm blanket. Read on to learn more!
Top Scents for Fall: Heart & Home
If you’ve been a Saje fan for a while now, you know how highly anticipated our seasonal diffuser blend collections have become. Our community members wait patiently to see what new and well-loved aromas we’ll be bringing to their homes this year, and we’re thrilled to say that we think we’ve outdone ourselves with our first offering, Heart & Home. This blend is inspired by spending more time indoors, seeking the type of calm and comfort that encourages us to tap into our creativity and let our imagination flow.
This is a balancing blend of sweetness, florals and woody notes that work in synergy to create something complex yet nuanced for the Fall season. The first notes your nose will sense in the blend are those of vanilla-like balsam peru and the dry, musky notes of virginiana cedar. These are complemented by a brand-new oil to our blending portfolio called tomar. Tomar oil is a rare and precious seed oil that is native to Nepal and Northern India. The scent of this oil is incredibly unique; taking on aromatic notes that are slightly floral yet spicy, fruity yet warm and peppery. This oil is thought to help combat stress and elevate our mood.
In times of seasonal change, it’s important to nurture and support your physical and emotional health through this transition from more to less light, and warmer to cooler temperatures – we think Heart & Home is the perfect blend to help you do just that.
Top Scents for Fall: Forest Inhale
The second scent we’re offering this season is a bring-back of a well-loved favorite, Forest Inhale. Have you ever wondered what it would smell like if you were to combine the earthy, balsamic notes of resins with the cool, crispness of fir needles, married with the freshness and lemon-like aroma of an evergreen shrub? We think it would smell exactly like this.
Forest Inhale is a powerful, supportive and connective blend of nature-inspired aromas that were blended to help you feel transported straight into your local forests and mountains, exploring the deepest breath you’ve taken all day. We combined the woody and renewing notes of siberian fir with warm, rich and sweet resins of copaiba and myrrh, along with an unexpected bright note of citrus-like may chang for a formulation that is bracing, crisp and inspires an overall sense of well-being while helping you stay grounded and in harmony with the natural world all around you.
Top Scents for Fall: Fireside Chai
Perhaps we saved the best for last in that our community-favorite Fireside Chai is back for another season to tantalize your senses with rich, warming and spicy notes of chai, inspired by the bliss and familiarity of a cozy, comforting beverage in the Fall time; this blend encourages you to re-create that experience aromatically in your home.
Fireside Chai combines spicy, sweet, warm and peppery Fall essential oils that help you embrace the changing of the seasons and lean into feeling comforted and nurtured. This blend contains star anise, a licorice-like aromatic that promotes emotional lightness and feeling grounded, cardamom for spicy warmth that promotes clear breathing and feelings of mental clarity and cinnamon leaf, a mood-enhancing and welcoming warm and spicy oil for self-love and self-confidence.
We hope you’ll have the chance to experience our limited-edition Fall diffuser scents and encourage you to bring these seasonal favorites into your space.
Top Scents for Fall: single note essential oils
We think that Fall essential oils are those that evoke feelings of comfort, reflection and gratitude. Now that we’ve talked through the newest offerings for cozy fall essential oil blends, we would be remiss to not share three of the single note essential oils we offer that many people also enjoy as the Summer turns to Fall. While diffuser blends offer the synergy of a variety of essential oils working together in aromatic harmony, single notes are those that encapsulate just one aroma of a plant or tree that has been harvested and distilled for its precious oil or resin.
Frankincense essential oil: we might be a little biased, but we think that there isn’t much frankincense can’t do. This herbal, balsamic resin when diffused is widely reported to support mental and emotional health and well-being, promoting a state of meditative relaxation and feeling grounded. Plus, it smells warm, earthy and woody and can even be used topically with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil to help relieve symptoms related to dry and mature skin.
Cinnamon essential oil: this oil is potent, sweet, spicy and peppery, and is traditionally used in aromatherapy to help ease and relieve symptoms of respiratory ailments like cough and cold. Diffusing just a few drops of this supportive oil can help you breathe easier (and make your home smell like fresh baked cookies!)
Balsam Fir essential oil: one of our absolute favorite tree scents, balsam fir is a touch lighter and sweeter than many classic woody notes, yet still offers the fresh, crisp scent you would expect from the forest. A traditional use for this oil is to help relieve and ease feelings of stress and mild anxiety, which is perfect in your diffuser at the end of a long day or when you’re looking to unwind. Hot tip: we like to combine 1-5 drops of balsam fir with 1-5 drops of grapefruit essential oil for a woody, fresh and tart combination that both uplifts and balances.
Ways to bring the tops scents for Fall into your daily life
Essential oils for Fall are one of the easiest ways to experience the changing of the season. Less light, shorter days and typically the return of wetter weather in many areas means many of us are spending more time indoors. We wanted to share with you some of the ways we continue to support our self-care and self-nurturance, both indoors and outdoors, with some of our other favorite ways to enjoy the Autumn:
- Treat yourself! Three words for you – Pumpkin. Spice. Latte. Some may say it’s basic, but studies show that taking time for a special moment you make for yourself, as well as for others, can have a profoundly positive impact on your mood, functioning and overall outlook. So go ahead and have that warm and cozy drink!
- Try a new activity. This time of year, the potential for all sorts of wonderful adventures looms large. The late season wildflowers like sunflowers, asters and poppies are blooming, so maybe you visit your local floral gardens. Perhaps you sneak in an end-of-season visit to a farmer’s market for seasonal fare like cabbage, apples, pears and plums. Whatever you choose, the transition from Summer to Fall can be made easier with a fun and lighthearted outdoor activity.
- See the leaves change. Cliche as it may seem, there is almost nothing more beautiful that nature offers for free each year than the changing colors of the leaves. Depending on where you live, the Fall foliage you see can offer an astonishing array of hues, from red, yellow and orange to golden brown. Take a slow walk, breathe deeply and soak in the beauty of the season as it comes. Here’s a fun fact: The process of leaves changing colors in the fall is called "senescence."
As the season turns, we hope you’ll take advantage of all that Fall has to offer, including the unique variety of Fall essential oils, and invite the scents of the season into your space.
