So, here we are. I look at this now four-month-old kid and marvel. Any available body part that comes close to her mouth will suddenly be hoovered into her toothless maw and gummed to death. Little legs now pump and flail and fly upwards to almost kick herself in the noggin when she’s lying on her back. When she’s being held up in a standing position those little legs become bars of tiny steel, supporting her own weight for seconds at a time before she wobbles and collapses with a squeal. And then immediately scours the area for an available knuckle to gnaw.

Today my crazy maniac monkey face (oh yes, you turn into a dopey, soppy, terrible nickname creator once you push a bubs out) turns two months old. Still so new, and yet how much she’s changed and developed, it feels like she should be off to college tomorrow. I am already that lame Mama who laments “where her baby went.” This does not bode well for me when she actually does leave home. I’ll be the parent sleeping outside her dorm door on a cot, rocking and crying and holding her baby blanket.

As a writer, the first of my friends to endeavor on making a kid, and a girl with little to no memory, the most natural thing in the world was to chronicle the long and strange journey in words.
